Co-production of Nutrition and Hydration
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Patients Panel and Governance International has produced a major report on the opportunities for improving nutrition and hydration of patients in hospitals by making use of co-production contributions of patients and their carers. The research and report, funded by NHS England, involved a range of workshops with patients, patient representatives, medical staff and other health professionals to develop a range of potential activities and resources which would allow patients to improve their food and drink experiences while in hospital (and after subsequent discharge), an aspect of daily life which research has shown to have important consequences for patient health and wellbeing but which has often been neglected in NHS practice. The report highlights six major opportunities for significant policy and practice changes through patient and carer co-production which could make real improvements to patient health and wellbeing.
