How Wray Village worked with the University of Lancaster to get broadband access

Performance Indicators

The network has well over 150 active users that use the internet on a daily basis. The usage of internet has increased from 10% of the village in 2003 to current levels of around 90% of people in the village using the internet. This is a much higher level than other areas of the country, especially rural ones, and has been achieved through peer-to-peer influence and education. This education has been especially important in ensuring elderly people have been able to ‘get online’.

The process has meant several businesses have been saved from relocating. The process itself has also closely tied people within the community more closely together.
