The second conference on local innovations in Bordeaux focussed on public-private partnerships in France. As the Governance International Case Study Ages & Vie shows they are still not very common in France. The conference explored the similarities, differences and opportunities for collaboration between public agencies and business. The event was hosted by Alain Juppe, Mayor of Bordeaux. Elke Loeffler took part in a roundtable debating public performance and social value.

Public Governance in Lithuania, Vilnius, 12-13 May 2011

What are the future governance challenges for the Lithuanian public sector? And what lessons can be learnt from other European countries? As Lithuania prepares its 2020 Public Sector Reform Programme the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Interior launched a two-day event with national and international experts to discuss these issues. The event attracted 140 participants from central and local government and the third sector in Lithuania. Also the Prime Minister who is captured doing the ‘exercise with sticky dots’ prepared by Governance International showed high interest in the conference. Elke Loeffler discussed with participants how Lithuanian agencies can involve citizens more in public services and how agencies can improve the quality of public services. Experts from Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Lithuania provided inputs on HR issues, performance management, agencification and public values.
