Developing new relationships with the ‘market’ in the procurement of public services This article demonstrates that partnership working can take many forms, each of which significantly alters the way in which markets for public services work. Through a series of case studies it highlights the potential for major improvements in service quality and cost savings through joint commissioning, strategic service delivery partnerships, relational contracting and user and community co-production.

Public Private Partnerships: From contested concepts to prevalent practice This article demonstrates the range of partnerships which are currently being used in the public sector and analyses their potential benefits and limitations. It suggests that it is important to specify clearly the intended role of partnerships, so that their cost-benefit balance can be estimated and only genuinely valuable partnerships are supported.
