Introduction
Personalisation of public services has been high on the agenda in the UK for some time. Indeed, the previous Labour government had already started to shift in this direction in some areas, most obviously in social care, with its 2006 White Paper “Our Health, Our Say”. This has meant a big transformation in the way services are provided in health and social care – not only for professionals but also for service users. In Derbyshire County Council this change process has been managed together with a wide range of stakeholders who are involved in social services for adults. This case study prepared by Andrew Coulson describes what it takes to turn formerly passive users into active and responsible participants of their support and care.
