Scaling it Up and Making it Stick: Moving to Sustainable Co-production

Once you have developed your approach to user and community co-production of public services and have a range of successful initiatives under way, the next challenge is to widen the approach to your whole service system and to ensure it is sustainable into the longer term. This is the challenge which many public agencies have failed to meet in recent years. Governance International has tools to help you to embed co-production within your service, your organisation and your partnership.

  • Co-production Business Case Generator: this tool helps you to assess and demonstrate the potential benefits created by co-production, the potential efficiency gains across more services and outcomes and the level of co-production which will give you the best balance of outcome improvements and cost savings.

  • Competency Framework and Performance Management System: this tool helps you build co-production objectives and targets into your HR and performance management systems, giving your staff clear signals on how to make co-production work – and designing incentives so that service users, other citizens  and third sector organisations don’t burn out or lose commitment.

  • The International Co-Production Exchange Network (ICE) provides you with access to peer review and coaching by national and international colleagues from high quality services in the same field.
